Across Puerto Rico, our coral reefs are facing a defining moment. Rising ocean temperatures, habitat loss, and the accelerating impacts of climate change continue to damage the marine ecosystems that protect our coastlines and sustain life in the Caribbean.
At ISER Caribe, we work every single day to restore these essential ecosystems through our coral reef restoration work, and the dedicated effort of our team of divers, scientists, and community aquaculture practitioners.
This year we have planted more than 42,000 coral fragments from over 10 different coral species, released more than 2,400 sea urchins of two different species , and over 300 crabs on reefs around Puerto Rico. In addition, we have welcomed more than 850 visitors to our nurseries in Ceiba and La Parguera and provided practice and volunteer opportunities to more than 120 people.
However, there is still much work to be done, and we are at a moment when we can truly make a difference… together, thanks to the support of people like you.
Today, we invite you to join our mission with a contribution—big or small—to sustain three essential pillars of our restoration efforts:
1) Restoring coral reefs across Puerto Rico
Your donation supports planting corals, restoring essential herbivores, monitoring coral reef growth, and the recovery of reef habitats critical for biodiversity, fisheries, and coastal resilience.
2) Maintaining our coral and urchin nurseries
Daily maintenance of our nurseries where we grow our corals and herbivores for restoration requires specialized equipment, materials, pumps, urchin feeding systems, and dozens of hours of expert technical work.
3) Fair compensation for our divers and aquaculture team
Your support sustains the wages of divers, technicians, aquaculture specialists, and local youth building a just and sustainable blue economy.
Your contribution creates direct impact
Every dollar becomes action: more corals growing, more urchins restoring seagrass and reef areas, more young Puerto Ricans trained in marine sciences, and a more resilient Caribbean in the face of climate change.
We invite you to make a donation today and be part of this transformative work:
Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us build a stronger, healthier, and more vibrant Puerto Rico.
With gratitude,
Braulio A. Quintero Nazario, PhD
Executive Director ISER Caribe
